“My journey is my personal American Dream, which extends beyond my success to helping others navigate their paths in a new country,” Dr. Maria explains.
Each center provides full services, such as counseling in family separation, fighting discrimination, and coping with the stress pertinent to cultural adjustment.
Central to her approach is an emphasis on cultural sensitivity. She says she knows the immigrant experience is anything but one-dimensional, and the challenges these families face aren’t always issues typically addressed in traditional counseling settings.
“I wanted to provide a space where immigrants could find understanding, guidance, and empowerment,” Dr. Maria shares.
Her commitment to cultural sensitivity extends to every aspect of her services, from the mode of delivery to the training she provides to her staff.
Dr. Maria’s path to success as an entrepreneur and counselor has its roots in the same personal experiences: born in the Dominican Republic, she migrated to the United States at a very young age and, from that moment on, had to face the challenges that came with adaptation to a new culture.
Despite facing language barriers, discrimination, and the emotional impact of parental conflict due to divorce, these obstacles only served to fortify her determination to succeed and contribute to society.
Her personal experiences gave her a broad view of immigrant family struggles, which later motivated her work.
Planning for the future, Dr. Maria hopes to extend her Care Counseling services, reaching out to more and more people and their families in need.
